The broom stick story
A girl with less knowledge in
tamil married a purely tamil speaking guy. Now, her knowledge of tamil
was very limited compared
to that of the boy's. Wedding gets over.. The next morning day's
activities starts off. The in laws place is full of people.
There are people everywhere.. Loads of relatives.
The girl is standing at the end
of the home, near the back door close to the bathroom.. Her mil asks her 'konjam
anda vezhaku maaru eduthu kudu ma'. This poor dil didnt have a clue of
what the meaning of 'vezhaku maru' was. She stood staring back at her
mil
without knowing what to do. The dil didnt know the word!!! She knew the
first part of the word 'vezhaku' which she could relate only to 'deepam'
i.e lamp which ideally is lit in the pooja room n wondered wide-eyed why on earth
she was being asked to get that when she was standing in the corner of
the home..!!!
Wonder what her mil thought of her at that moment, till date the
dil doesnt have a clue on that. But there were three more ladies still
staring at her pretty anxiously, as the dil was not doing what she was
told to do. Luckily for her, her tall dh happened to notice this
from the hall.
She was raising herself on her toes and craning her neck enough to
reach him and ask him with raised eyebrows 'what?'. He being the master
of communication, immediately said.. 'todapam nu soluvanga avanga
oorla'. People acknowledged him.. Well who was he.. He saved the moment
for all!!! The dil was more than happy to turn around and find the
broom stick in its place.. The girl learnt a new word in tamil and laughed
to herself. Everyone she narrates the incident to, still have a hearty
laugh..
